This “hands-on” workshop presented by Dr Aline Bombo (Lab of Vegetation Ecology, Universidade Estadual Paulista, Brazil) and hosted by Dr Frances Siebert (Forb Ecology Research Group, North-West University) was focused on the methods for surveying bud banks and below-ground organs for ecological research.

A background lecture was presented on 9 May at the NWU, Potchefstroom campus, whereafter practical sessions were conducted at METSI. On 10 May lab sessions were held on how to prepare the material and how to proceed with bud counts and below-ground organ diversity. Lab sessions were also conducted at the Potchefstroom campus.

After completion of the workshop, certificates were awarded to the attendees.
