App Factory team at the NWU are constantly looking for ways to redefine technology interaction. From serious games to serious apps, the App Factory team challenges the boundaries of South Africa’s growing mobile app development culture. As a team, we are focused on building apps that cater to the needs of the ever-evolving market. We are always ready for a new challenge. Each member of the team brings with them their own unique talent – from graphic design to coding and business development. Each of the developers has a Masters in Computer Science and we are constantly looking out to recruit top-achievers in the BSc IT programme to join our team.

  • Lecture room support – an app used by lecturers to email any problems with the equipment in the room to support staff.

 

  • Amazing Race – a treasure-hunt based app developed for the school of Economic Sciences

 

  • Bill Splitter – Never argue about who owes how much again! Bill Splitter is an app that ensures that all dinner guests pay exactly their share of the bill while guaranteeing that the waiter gets a fair tip too! For those of you who are not in the mood to do the maths after an awesome time out - let Bill Splitter do the work for you! This app helps to calculate the VAT, tip, and amount each individual owes at the end of a shared meal. (download this app (URL))

 

  • Financial Maths – Mathematics teachers are challenged to develop Mathematics education that is in line with the dynamic conceptions of symbolizing and the development of meaning. The role of the teacher is essential in understanding how to teach effectively with technology. Financial Maths is a prototype that introduce simple and compound interest using the principals of Realistic Mathematics Education. (download this app (URL))

 

  • Isikokhulumayo – This app makes it easier for Sesotho and Zulu (languages spoken in South Africa) students to understand academic concepts when they can quickly get the Sesotho or Zulu translation of a concept given in English. The app makes provision for Accounting, Auditing, Taxation and a few general concepts. (download this app (URL))

 

  • My Garden-SA – This is a Proto Type App and this version is meant for specific users to report any errors and short comings. The final app will be uploaded as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. This app provides information on how and when to sow, plant and harvest the most common vegetables in South Africa. (download this app (URL))
