Welcome to the Unit for Data Science and Computing (UDSC) webpage.
In an era where artificial intelligence has become the standard rather than a futuristic idea, and data has become a commodity, the Unit for Data Science and Computing takes on the challenge of conducting meaningful research.
At the forefront of innovation and discovery, our nine research groups are dedicated to advancing technology, enhancing decision-making, and transforming education. From the Advanced Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Next-Generation Networking groups, our teams push the boundaries of computational methodologies, machine learning, and intelligent systems to solve real-world challenges. The Decision Science and Optimisation Group refines analytical models for industry applications, while the Centre for Business Mathematics and Informatics strengthens financial risk management through innovative research. The Information and Computer Security Group is dedicated to safeguarding digital infrastructures by developing intelligent cybersecurity techniques and technologies and human-centred security practices to counter emerging threats.
Addressing digital transformation, the Information Systems Engineering and Innovation Group drives advancements in systems engineering and IT project management. The Game-Enhanced Learning and Educational Technology Group transforms traditional learning by integrating gamification, interactive storytelling, and emerging technologies to boost engagement and retention. To contribute to a broader academic mission, the PROFOUND Group enhances teaching methodologies and promotes educational excellence across disciplines through research-driven approaches to education. Our nine groups thus form a dynamic interdisciplinary research ecosystem, driving technological progress and societal impact.
As critical thinkers, we take a holistic view of the computer science and information systems discipline. Our Systems Thinking Group focuses on interactions and different perspectives on technology and society to identify and manage unintended consequences of adopting current AI technology. In this regard, this group reflects on aspects such as digital transformation and business process management.
The UDSC is keen to prepare all-around practitioners for the future workforce. In this regard, we focus on the discipline of reflective practice to ensure that our graduates are equipped to be lifelong learners.
The UDSC aspires to contribute locally and globally by creating a supportive environment that ensures researchers develop to their full potential. We currently have B1, C1, and several C2—and C3-rated researchers, and we provide opportunities for researchers to create local and international networks.
