Vision and Mission Statements

The vision and mission of the MaSIM research focus area is related to that of the University (North-West University) and the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (FNAS). MaSIM also endeavours to intensify, promote, and reposition research and innovation for the benefit of communities (academic and social). Through research, teaching and community engagement, it also endeavours to add value to the student proposition and to actively develop and create an equitable staff profile reflecting the demographics of the country.

Vision

To be a nationally and internationally recognized Scientific Research Entity in Material Science, Innovation and Modelling in the broadest terms encompassing discipline specific and interdisciplinary research focus areas in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematical and Computational Sciences.

Mission

To conduct leading research in Africa through provision of science-based knowledge to address global and national challenges in societies which include but are not limited to water, food and hunger, poverty, energy, climate change, innovation, economic growth, and health. This will be achieved through ascribing to the 5 mission elements of the NWU.
