The Pygmalion effect is living up to someone’s expectations or living down to someone’s expectations.

An example1 :

  • Johnny age 10, parents expects high marks from him at school. Johnny is trying to live up to their expectations by doing extra schoolwork and studying very hard.
  • His sibling, Amanda, age 17, is not trying to live up to their parent’s expectation and is a rebel and cause major problems for their parents. She is living down to their expectations
