Outreach

Astronomy for Schools

The aim of this program is to host activities related to Astronomy to inspire learners for further education in the Sciences. As Astronomy related topics (Sun, planets) are already part of the school curriculum, this outreach integrates well with the children's studies.
The first outreach for 2014 was held on the 28th of February at Promosa Primary School (Potchefstroom), with volunteers from 'Tribes of the Deep Sky' workshop. Grade three learners were shown an interactive presentation of the Earth, Moon, Sun and planets, and our place in the solar system. The learners then proceeded to make their own sky map, which can later be used at home. Around 150 students were involved in this outreach, and we plan to expand on this next year.
