Introduction

The Mahikeng campus of the North-West University is honoured to host the 47th annual SAAB Conference. Due to the uncertainties brought forth by the Covid-19 pandemic, we will host the conference online, and delegates can attend from the comfort and safety of their homes, offices or student rooms.

The conference will take place on the Remo platform, a lively and interactive site with tables, stages, floors and even lounges where delegates can take a break from the presentations and meet up with colleagues. Delegates will also be able to take selfies in the photo booth. The poster session will be replaced by speed talks. The gala dinner will be replaced by a prize-giving event. At the event, conference prizes and SAAB medals for exceptional contributions to botany will be awarded. The most technologically challenged delegate will also be recognized for his/her effort.

A photography competition replaces the traditional excursion. Competition categories will include laboratory work, fieldwork, or endemic plants. However, only photos of a high quality with a good composition will be considered. We will display the photos throughout the conference and delegates can vote for the best photo. The winning photographer will receive a prize.
