Overview

Welcome to the Animal Production Research Ethics Committee (AnimProdRec)

The NWU-AnimProd REC is an NHREC-registered ethics committee reporting both to the SCRE (as a standing committee of the Senate) of the NWU and the NHREC respectively. NWU-AnimProd REC reviews applications for ethical approval of animal production studies. All animal studies related to health conducted with the objectives of benefiting human health, animal health and environmental health can be approved by the NWU-AnimCare-REC. The following projects are evaluated:

  1. Any animal research study considered by the SRC (school research committee) and recommended to the animal REC for clearance and review, irrespective of the risk level
  2. Animal studies are involved in research for the purpose of improving animal breeding, animal nutrition, genetics and reproduction, general production, health, and animal welfare
  3. Projects, both for the purpose of research or training, for degree or non-degree purposes, may also be evaluated.
