Application Process:

STEP 1 

Study conceptualisation and proposal approval by the subject discipline and the appropriate faculty of School Scientific committee (SC).

Confirmation of approval by the scientific committee is mandatory. 

PREPARE (Planning Research and Experimental Procedures on Animals: Recommendations for Excellence) guidelines for concept development can be used. 

STEP 2 

Submission of ethics application:

This can be done via email or the NWU-ANIMPROD-ethics application portal. The applications are sent to the admin person for assessment and verification of the required supporting documents.

Applications are submitted approximately a month before the next sitting of the ethics committee meeting. A provisional ethics number will be granted 

STEP 3 

Review process:

The applications are allocated to reviewers for evaluation.

The reviewers send their reports to the admin person, who will forward them to the applicants for revisions and submission of rebuttal. If the rebuttal is done to the satisfaction of a fully constituted ethics meeting, the application will be approved, and an ethics approval number will be granted.

The expected turnaround period from the date of submission to granting of approval number is approximately 45 days

• Letter of approval from the School/Entity Scientific Committee (SC) 
• Proof of internal or external Animal ethics training
