WRG Ecology studies estuarine, wetland and river ecosystems with the aim to determine the interactions and/or relationships between the different organisms and their responses to their environment.  This research aims to contribute towards local, regional and national knowledge of the Southern African aquatic biodiversity through high quality, relevant research and collaborations with our international partners.

Our research focuses on the following broad topics:

  • Biomonitoring surveys (including biotic indices DRAM, SASS5, FRAI & MRAI)

  • Baseline aquatic surveys

  • Aquatic biodiversity surveys

  • Aquatic Impact assessments for EIA’s

  • Diatoms (general algal diversity services can also be provided)

  • Aquatic specialist studies for EIA’s

  • Water quality studies

  • Sediment quality studies (metal and organic pollution)
