Manual for ROC analyses

Preface

This guide, which leans heavily on the book of Krzanowski & Hand (2009), was written in an attempt to make it easier for the researcher to understand the theory behind and methods of ROC analyses. It is further attempted to explain the calculation methods by way of examples. With these calculations it is indicated how the statistical packages SPSS and Statistica can be used in conjunction with the ROCKIT program (which can be downloaded from the internet). An Excel spreadsheet is also provided with the manual, which can help with the adjustment for covariates, the determination of an optimum cut-off point, and the calculation of the AUC with its confidence limits. The data that was used in the last example is also provided.
