3MC CIMPA School 2025

3MC Presents:

CIMPA School on Mathematical and Statistical modeling in Oncology

3-14 February 2025, NWU, Potchefstroom

Abstract: Mathematical and statistical modeling in oncology encompasses applying mathematical and statistical techniques to comprehend, describe, and forecast various facets of cancer biology, epidemiology, and treatment. This interdisciplinary field is instrumental in advancing cancer understanding, optimizing treatment, and guiding healthcare decisions. Research areas include modeling tumor growth and spread, assessing drug behavior, understanding cancer incidence and risk factors, tailoring treatment plans, and designing clinical trials. This research school is aimed to empower participants with in-depth knowledge and skills in using quantitative methods for cancer research. The program focuses on theoretical understanding and practical applications, teaching formulation of mathematical models, statistical analysis of data, data integration, and programming proficiency. Essential learning includes grasping cancer biology, medical terminology, and fostering collaboration across diverse disciplines. Participants are expected to develop expertise in modeling cancer processes, analyzing clinical data, and collaborating effectively with experts in oncology, biology, and statistics, ultimately contributing to advancements in cancer understanding and patient outcomes.
