Senior Post-Doctoral Research Fellow - Soil Ecology and Ecotoxicology (SEE) 

 

The North-West University’s Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management invites suitable applications for a Senior Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Soil Ecology and Ecotoxicology (SEE) research group. Interested candidates are invited to familiarize themselves with the research themes of EIER through this link. You will work with an NRF B-rated researcher, Professor Mark Maboeta, to further your academic career and boost your publication output. 

If you are a junior researcher (less than 5 years post PhD, and under 45 years old) with a record of publications and keen on pursuing collaborative publication on soil ecotoxicology with earthworms (and other soil organisms) as bioindicator and climate change, you are welcome to submit an application. If you need more inspiration on which topics to publish on, you are welcome to visit Mark’s Google Scholar profile, where some of his publications are listed. You may also contact him if you want other topics to be considered.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow - Earth Systems, Soils and Resources (ESSSOR) 

The North-West University’s Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management hosts a world-renowned group of researchers and is offering a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position in the abovementioned field of research.

The successful candidate is expected to be a full-time active member of the ESSSOR sub-programme and should commence as soon as possible.

The successful candidate might choose from either of the three possible projects below:

  1. Cenozoic stratigraphy and palaeo- environments of the South African margin.
  2. Geochemical / petrological / sedimentological / micropalaeontological analyses of cores from the Karoo Basin.
  3. Geochemical, sedimentological, micro-palaeontological, mineralogical and pedological analyses of cores from soils from the surroundings of Potchefstroom.

2022

Two MSc students - Bush Encroachment

The Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management is seeking two highly motivated MSc students to investigate bush control/thinning and rehabilitation methods in degraded arid- and semi-arid Savanna rangelands of the Northern Cape and North-West Provinces, South Africa. The study will be carried out on sandy soil ecosystems in different land use systems for a period of 2-3 years.

One MSc student will mainly work on the encroachment of Senegalia mellifera (black thorn) and one MSc student on Rhigozum trichotomum (three thorn) encroachment at selected study sites in the two Provinces mentioned above.
