David Kubayi - Biography

 

PROF DAVID KUBAYI

Prof David Kubayi holds a BSc(Hons) degree in Mathematics Education, a BSc(Hons) in Mathematics, an MSc degree in Mathematics, and a PhD degree in Mathematics, all from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He received his PhD in 2001.

He started his academic career as Senior Tutor in Mathematics at Wits University in 2001. He then spent 2002 at the Alfred Renyi Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary, as a Postdoctoral fellow. He came back to South Africa in 2003 to join Wits University as a Lecturer in Mathematics till December 2004. From January 2005 till June 2007 he was employed as a Junior Securitisation Transactor in Nedbank Capital, a division of Nedbank Ltd.  From July 2007 till August 2009 he was employed as a Structured Finance Analyst at Fitch Ratings SA. He returned to academia in September 2009 when he joined Stellenbosch University as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics till October 2011. He joined the University of Limpopo in November 2011 as Associate Professor in Mathematics, where he also served as the Head of Department of Mathematics & Applied Mathematics till March 2014.

He joined the Department of Mathematics & Applied Mathematics at the North-West University, Potchefstroom, in April 2014 where he is currently Associate Professor of Mathematics. He has served as Subject Group Chairperson from January 2017 till December 2018 and also as Deputy Director of the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences from January 2019 till December 2020.

 

     

His research interests include Orthogonal polynomials, Weighted polynomial approximation, Singular integrals and Fractional calculus.
