PROF HENNING KRIEGHenning Krieg completed his B.Sc. (1989) at Stellenbosch University and his B.Sc. Hons at the University of Pretoria (1991) before travelling on a Fulbright scholarship to the US where he completed his M.S. in Food Chemistry at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in 1994. He returned to South Africa where he completed his Ph.D. at the NWU (then the PU for CHE) in 2000. In the same year he was appointed as senior lecturer and head of the membrane research group. In 2005, he was promoted to Associate Professor and in 2009 to Professor. His research interests include membrane-based electrochemical processes, currently focussing on novel and environmentally friendly redox flow batteries, and membrane-based solvent extraction (pertraction), focussing on the beneficiation of South African mineral resources. He has forged strong national and international ties with industry, academic institutions and governmental organisations. To date he has 100 peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings, 4 book chapters and 7 patents to his name. He has a C2 NRF rating with an H-index of 16/17/20 (Web of Science/Scopus/Google). He has given 110 oral and 43 poster presentations, while having supervised and co-supervised 31 M.Sc., 6 M.Eng. and 17 Ph.D. students. He has been a national and international reviewer for numerous research journals, councils and universities. Henning has a passion for people and enjoys supporting and collaborating with both colleagues and students. He is dedicated and task-oriented, focussing on detail and outcomes.
