PROF PHILLIP MASHELEProf. Hopolang Phillip Mashele has a PhD degree in mathematics from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Master of Business Administration degree from the North-West University, and a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of the Free State. He was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics in Hungary after completing his PhD degree. Phillip has over four-years’ experience in the investment industry and more than 20 years' experience in academia. After a two-and-a-half-year stint at Metropolitan Asset Managers, where he was a senior quantitative analyst on its Absolute Return Fund, Phillip joined the North-West University in 2008 as an associate professor at the Centre for Business Mathematics and Informatics. He is currently a Professor of Financial Mathematics at the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences of NWU and an Associate Research Fellow for African Institute for Mathematical Sciences. He also serves in the NWU Pension Fund Board of Trustees as a member of the board. Prof. Mashele’s main interest was initially in the field of Approximation Theory, a research niche in pure Mathematics, but his focus has since moved to the field of Financial Mathematics, particularly, computational finance and financial risk analysis.
