Prof Roan Louw - Biography

 

PROF ROAN LOUW

Starting his academic career in 2002, Roan Louw is currently Professor of Biochemistry at the Focus Area: Human Metabolomics, North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom. He received his PhD at the NWU in 2005.  Prof Louw’s research focusses on mitochondrial bioenergetics involvement in human diseases. His research outputs include the characterization and aetiology of mitochondrial respiratory chain disorders (RCD) in the South African population, metabolic adaptations in RCD patients- and disease models as well as the involvement of mitochondrial bioenergetics in non-communicable diseases. Prof Louw served as acting deputy director in the School for Physical and Chemical Sciences and is also a member of the NWU Senate.
