ENVIRA & METSI

ENVIRA

The Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management (UESM) Newsletter, ENVIRA, was revived during the 2020 Lockdown and has been fruitful ever since. The ENVIRA is published seasonally and broadcasts the most recent research activities within the UESM, along with additional interesting news snippets in an exciting and interactive way.

The editors of the ENVIRA have hosted a photography competition in the Spring edition whereafter the prize-winners were announced in the Summer edition (published in December, 2020).

Feel free to access the latest editions on the UESM website, or follow this link to the most recent ENVIRA: ENVIRA Autumn edition.

Be sure to look out for the Winter edition of ENVIRA, to be published soon.

METSI

The research facility of the Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management (UESM), METSI (Mooi River Ecosystem Trials for Scientific Investigations), was established with the dual vision to increase opportunities for interdisciplinary research within the UESM, and to establish long-term monitoring research of national and international value.

METSI (Setswana for “water”) boasts various research opportunities due to its range of land-uses and water bodies. METSI is home to a small fragment of natural dolomite grassland with adjacent abandoned agricultural fields. The facility is also in close proximity to the confluence of the Mooi River and Gerhard Minnebron rivers, as well as the source (‘eye’) of the Mooi River.

Information on established infrastructure, research application documents, accommodation and more can be found under the METSI tab on the UESM website, or by following this link.
